Our course information pages provide information about how much time your young person can expect to be at UCM each week as well as how much time they can expect for self-study. Most of our students have part0time jobs alongside their studies.
Unless your young person has a specific uniform which relates to their course, students can wear whatever they feel comfortable in. In some areas such as construction and engineering they will need to wear specific PPE which the lecturers will have already made them aware of. You will find details of this on the course information page.
The form of assessments depends of the course but usually there is a mixture of exam, course work and observations. We assess students for any additional requirements for exams to make sure students are given all the support they need to achieve.

We appreciate that it can be difficult to know the difference between the various academic levels. When your young person makes an application, we assess if the course will be too difficult or too easy for them and can provide individual information, advice and guidance about this.
We know how nerve-wracking it can be waiting for exam results; but we always reassure everyone that if they don’t get the results they expected, not to panic. Firstly, make sure your young person uploads the results onto the Learner Portal. Our team can then review them to see how to best support your young person. If it’s their English or Maths qualification they haven’t achieved, we can usually offer this alongside their studies with us.
Students can visit our #2 cafeteria which has a variety of hot and cold lunches and snacks. It’s also open early for breakfast. We also offer free tea/coffee and toast between 8.30am - 9.15am at our Homefield Road Campus.
Students who are eligible for free school meals can still access this at UCM.
Additionally, students are welcome to bring in their own lunch, and we event have a microwave they can use in #2.
